A Note from Our President/CEO

For St. Louis Patients, Continuity of Care Cannot Wait

When a healthcare provider closes its doors, the impact ripples far beyond a single building. It disrupts trust, interrupts treatment plans, and leaves patients searching for stability in moments of uncertainty. Our community has recently witnessed disruption in healthcare, and this has created exactly that kind of uncertainty for many in our community.

Healthcare is not just about access; it is about continuity of care. It is about ensuring that a mother can still receive prenatal care without interruption, that a child stays on track with developmental screenings and wellness visits, and that individuals living with chronic conditions like diabetes or hypertension do not fall through the cracks.

Community health centers are the backbone of our nation’s healthcare safety net, serving more than 30 million patients each year. They provide high quality, affordable care regardless of a patient’s ability to pay, reaching those too often left behind by traditional systems. For many, community health centers are not just a provider; they are a trusted, consistent source of care rooted in the neighborhoods they serve.

Many of those affected by the disruption live in areas where they can turn to others to receive the necessary care. Not allowing interrupted care to linger and seeking another option is vital for community members to continue prioritizing their health.

Patients deserve to receive critical services from a community health center that is stable; a place meeting the highest healthcare standards with excellence, providing expanded access points to ensure no patient is left behind. A community health center with convenient walk-in care services for those who need immediate attention without the barrier to scheduling delays. Patients are encouraged to consider a community health center that prioritizes primary care appointments, with a focused effort on high-risk populations, including pregnant women, children, and individuals managing chronic illnesses because delays in care for these groups can have lifelong consequences.

But this moment is about more than filling a gap. It is about reaffirming the value of community-based healthcare, care that is responsive, compassionate, and rooted in communities served. This moment is about meeting patients where they are and ensuring that care is not just available, but truly accessible and coordinated.

Continuity of care saves lives. It reduces emergency room visits, improves health outcomes, and strengthens the overall wellbeing of our community. It is my hope that patients realize they deserve exceptional care from not only their providers but from an entire organization that not only responds but leads and ensures that every patient impacted knows there is still a place they can turn for trusted, high-quality care.
