Health and Human Services Regional Director visits Affinia Healthcare

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Regional Director of Region 7 Wm. Jeff Kahrs met with Affinia Healthcare President and CEO Dr. Kendra Holmes, members of the leadership team and board members in Ferguson on Thursday, May 14. This afforded Kahrs the opportunity to hear about the impactful initiatives and educational resources the organization has developed to help patients live healthier lives.
“To truly improve health outcomes and reduce disparities, we’ve learned that healthcare must go beyond treating illness. Our focus is not just on treatment — it’s on education, prevention, and empowering communities to live healthier lives,” Holmes said.
Once the meeting ended, Kahrs toured the federally qualified health center’s newest facility, which opened in November 2023. He also toured the medical mobile unit, that features two private exam rooms, a wheelchair lift and a comfortable waiting area, allowing Affinia Healthcare to have an increased presence in the community.
Kahrs was in St. Louis for National Hospital Week and met with elected officials, organizations and entities to learn more about work happening in the region.
“I’ve already met with the mayor and your commissioner and told them both I would be coming here; and everybody is supportive of the great work you do,” Kahrs mentioned.
Kahrs was appointed regional director in July 2025 and provides oversight to four states and nine federally recognized tribes in the region. In his role, he works with federal, state, tribal, and local partners to advance health and human services initiatives.
