Affinia Healthcare launches food drive and partners with local organizations to provide food to the community

Affinia Healthcare is amid a food drive until November 30 to help meet the needs of those in the community. Monetary donations are also being accepted in addition to food items.
The food drive is happening at a crucial time in response to the federal government shut down since October 1, and with the uncertainty of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funds being distributed in November.
“Most neighborhoods in our service areas are in food desserts, and many of our patients face food insecurity and lack financial resources for other important needs as well,” said Affinia Healthcare VP, Development and Community Relations Yvonne Buhlinger. “Food is essential for life, health and wellbeing,” she added.
Affinia Healthcare patients who are eligible for financial assistance are being contacted by Community Health Workers and will receive a gift card for a limited amount beginning this week. The donated shelf-stable food will be available to anyone who attends Affinia Healthcare events beginning November 14, while supplies last.
Affinia Healthcare is partnering with local organizations such as Carrollton Bank and Regions Bank to provide resources to community members. Local insurance company, Daniel and Henry Company, is also launching an employee food drive to support the efforts of Affinia Healthcare.
“We are grateful to Carrollton Bank for their donation of $3,000 and to Regions Bank for offering their 34 St. Louis City and County bank locations for food drop-offs, in addition to Affinia Healthcare locations,” said Buhlinger.
Affinia Healthcare also partners with the St. Louis Area Food Bank for the Food Access Resource Markets (FARMs) to give away staple food items for free. FARMs is monthly on the first Wednesday and Friday. The giveaway takes place at Affinia Healthcare health centers at 3930 S. Broadway on the first Wednesday, beginning at 9 a.m. and at 1717 Biddle Street on the first Friday, beginning at 9 a.m.
