A Note from Our President/CEO

Taxing necessities negatively impacts underserved families

At Affinia Healthcare, we believe that essential health products should be accessible and affordable for everyone. That’s why we support efforts to reduce the state tax on diapers and feminine hygiene products in Missouri.

Right now, Missouri is one of 21 states that still taxes these necessities as luxury items, applying a 4.225% tax, while basic grocery items are taxed at just 1.225%. For families already facing financial hardship, this difference adds up — impacting the health and well-being of our most vulnerable community members.

House Bill 483 is a critical step toward health equity. No one should have to choose between essential hygiene products and other basic needs. We urge lawmakers to take action and ensure these products are taxed fairly.
