Meet Acey J. Staples – 21 Years Serving
As Director of WIC & Nutrition Services at Affinia Healthcare for 21 years, Acey J. Staples has designed strategies to implement a model WIC program delivering exceptional service and value to our patients. Acey initiated the Eastern District WIC Advisory Committee to forge an additional relationship with local WIC agencies. He is an active member of the National WIC Association and serves as the Vice-President of the MO WIC Association.
In the St. Louis area, Acey and his team have fostered strategic relationships and manage WIC services at four Affinia Healthcare sites and four community sites. He has engaged the two largest hospital systems, BJC and SSM Health, so that post-partum moms receive exemplary customer service by having the necessary forms completed to receive WIC services and breastfeeding education before leaving the hospital.
Acey continuously conducts community and organizational need assessments to enhance service to existing and potential WIC participants. He has expanded the Breast Feeding Peer Counseling Program by encouraging staff members to study for and pass an exam provided by the International Board of Lactation Consultants Examiners (IBLCE) and several staff members are now recognized as International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC).
“I do not see my position as a job, but more as a calling to give back to the people and community I serve,” says Staples. “There is nothing more rewarding than helping a family unit thrive and to assist the most vulnerable in society.”
Acey credits the WIC department’s success to having a team that is positive and sympathetic. Together they see an average of 7,600 WIC participants per month at Affinia Healthcare’s 10 site locations.
